On 22 January 2014, Greenpeace activists draped Essar's 180ft tall building in Mumbai with a giant 36 ft X 72 ft banner which read, 'We kill forests: Essar'. The banner also had pictures of the Environment and Forest Minister, Veerappa Moily and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Twelve activists scaled the building wearing tiger costumes - a symbol of protest against the proposed destruction of Mahan forests – a biodiversity rich sal forest in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh. They demanded that Essar should drop its plans of plundering the Mahan forests with their proposed coal mine, and that the PM should sack the newly anointed Veerappa Moily, who has been granting environment clearances at break-neck speed with a complete disregard for forests and human and wildlife that depend on them.

Google acquires security firm Impermium with Indian connection 

Google has acquired a three-year-old security firm Impermium with two Indian Co-founders - Vish Ramarao and Naveen Jamal. It has offices in Banglore and California.

The acquisition has been revealed by Impermium’s CEO and another Co-Founder, Mark Risher, who wrote in post on website that by joining Google, its team will merge with some of the best abuse fighters in the world.

Aam Aadmi Party does not rule out Arvind Kejriwal contesting Lok Sabha polls

Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday did not rule out Arvind Kejriwal contesting the Lok Sabha polls, with an AAP leader saying no decision has been taken on whether Delhi MLAs or the chief minister would be in fray.

"No formal decision has been taken by the election committee on whether any (AAP) MLA would not contest Lok Sabha elections," Yogendra Yadav said.

"The party has also not taken any decision that Arvind Kejriwal will not contest elections," he said, indicating that the Delhi chief minister may be in the race for Prime Minister's post if the party is in a position to form the government.

Kejriwal had earlier said that he would not contest the Lok Sabha elections and no AAP MLA would be allowed to fight the polls.

When asked by reporters over Kejriwal's statements, Yadav said, "He said this on basis that if MLAs are interested in contesting the Lok Sabha polls then how are we going to run the government. Anyways, we just have 28 MLAs."

About : Muhammad Yusuf Khan (1725 – 15 October 1764) or Maruthanayagam Pillai (correctly Mathuranayagam Pillai) was born in Panaiyur, Ramanathapuram District, Tamil Nadu, India in 1725. From humble beginnings, he became a warrior in the Arcot troops, later Commandant for the British East India Company troops. The British and the Arcot Nawab used him to suppress the Polygars (Palayakkarar) in the south of Tamil Nadu. Later he was entrusted to administrating the Madurai country when the Madurai Nayaks rule ended.
Later a dispute arose with the British and Arcot Nawab, and three of his associates were bribed to capture Yusuf Khan; he was hanged in 1764 in Madurai.

Legendary death : A legend is that he was hanged three times before he finally died.The brief story is that after he was sentenced to death by hanging he was hanged twice and the rope got broken.The British then ordered for a rope which were toughness-tested by mighty elephants.It was by this rope that he died.

Remarks : In 1808, a small square mosque was erected over the tomb in Samattipuram, in Madurai, which exists to this day on the left of the road to Theni, at Kaalavaasal, a little beyond the toll-gate, and is known as 'Khan Sahib's pallivasal'.
